This section is meant as a repository for some of my works using photoshop. I will where possible try to include, if not the actual steps used, then at least the tutorials I followed to make them.

Example: The Background of the old Website

All images you see were taken by me (including the wall) on my travels around the world.

I used the following tutorials in its creation:

  • Abduzeedo's Space Lighting Effects to create lighting effect. This layer was then placed above the wall and I experimented with blend modes and opacity to find the ideal effect.

  • Tutorial 9's Streaky Line Effect to create the header.

  • The large letters are simple white text with blend mode set to Overlay.

  • All images are set to blend mode Overlay above the wall with Masks helping provide the rough edges.

  • This wall texture.

Example: Tutoring Advertisement (23/04/2012)

I created this advertisement in about an hour and a half, though that's because I had no idea what I was going to do when I started! In reality it shouldn't take more than half an hour to an hour depending on how adept you are at Photoshop.

Here's the run down:

  • The white English / ICT / History etc. text was made using the Terminator font.

  • I create a layer for each of the colours, created with basic rectangles.

  • Above these layers, I placed the resized images. I dropped opacity or fill to 50% and used a Mask with gradient fill to give the fade-in effect.

  • All text with black outlines were a Stroke blending option.

  • The main "Tutoring Services" title uses the "Chrome" gradient overlay at 55% opacity (so the colour from the background slightly blends in) in blending options. The stroke is 8 pixels. I also added a drop shadow and inner glow.

  • The white stars were made with a white brush with a very low hardness setting. The overlapping circles were just that - white circles on different layers of different sizes and opacities.

  • The 2 horizontal white lines were again, just that - 2 horizontal lines to emphasize the English / ICT / History headings.
